There is that feeling that we all can recall after having gone to confession that "I'm never going to sin again!" right? I've felt it - only to screw up the whole thing within the week. We've all been there, I know. But right now, I want to ask a question:
Today, does it make any difference that yesterday was Earth Day?
Are the lights still being turned off? Are your recharges unplugged if you're not using them? Are you walking instead of driving short trips? Is the fridge less full and the freezer filled? Earth Day is a good place to start, but if it doesn't make a difference in our attitudes, we might as well have celebrated Velociraptor Awareness Day yesterday.
It is easy to forget why we are doing what we do if we forget why we have the chance in the first place.

Your post brings to mind a question that I read on Twitter:
If tomorrow you woke up and all the prayers you had prayed today were answered, would your world be any different?
It made me realize that for many people (and I'm in there too), our prayers are too "safe." We're afraid to pray big, dangerous prayers, prayers for God to break us wide open, to change us, to mold us for His purpose, and for us to be used by God. Dangerous, because we don't have a clue as to what that will look like. Dangerous, because deep deep down something keeps us from letting go of what God needs to work on. And, regrettably, we never fully experience the adventure that comes from abandoning ourselves to God's purpose and calling in our lives.
As you said in this post, "It is easy to forget why we are doing what we do if we forget why we have the chance in the first place."
(I could go on, but I want to save some of what I want to say for a post of my own.)
